The rise and fall of SHASS

The Jerusalem Post brings an interesting article on the present situation of the Sephardi SHASS party. I always expected the party to fall apart as soon as it’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef, is gone. He was the only one who could deal with the two rivals Aryeh Deri and Eli Yishai. Now the party split. Eli Yishai left Shass and founded his own party. Last week, Aryeh Deri quit.
My personal guess is that Shass will continue to exist. Simply because Sephardi Jewry needs a representation in the Knesset !
Shass should build itself anew and definitely without corruption and criminal politicians such as Aryeh Deri. Rabbi Ovadiah made a bis mistake when he accepted Aryeh Deri back right before the last Knesset elections. The reason was that Deri has a lot of supporters and thus earned more votes and seats for the Shass party.
