Every two years, an international book fair is taking place in Jerusalem. This time from 8. – 12. February 2015. I am always looking forward to this event because we don’t find a huge variety of books in Israeli bookstores.
As long as I know the Jerusalem International Book Fair, it always took place at the International Convention Center (Binyane’i HaUma). This time, however, the event is going to be at the Old Train Station. Good for me because it is only a five minutes walk.
What we find at the book fair: All kinds of books and a lot of publishing companies from the US, Canada, Britain and Israel are exhibiting. Nevertheless, we usually also find publishing companies from Germany, Austria, Russia, Poland, Hungary, France or Spanish speaking countries. Books can be purchased ! From novels to Jewish religious books. Everything is available.
This time, I am mainly interested in buying religious books from Artscroll or Feldheim. Anything interesting I can find. At the moment, I am reading a book I bought at the last book fair two years ago: “Open Secret” – Postmessianic Messianism and the Mystical Revision of Menachem Mendel Schneerson” by Elliot R. Wolfson. A great book so far.
The book is not another Rebbe biography but the author goes into Chabad Messianism and where it is based on. There are a lot of quotes from the Zohar, Iggeret HaKodesh, Torat Menachem and further Chabad literature. Definitely not an “easy read” but extremely interesting.
Not only the book fair location is different this year: The event will only last for four days instead of the usual ten days. This is a real pity !
The international book fair is free of charge !!!
