Photos & Video: “Sovev Yerushalayim” – The annual Biker Event in Jerusalem

B”H
The annual biker event SOVEV YERUSHALAYIM is not about winning or money but it is all about fun and to see how much in shape you actually are. Everybody can participate. No matter if adults or kids.
This year’s “Sovev Yerushalayim – Surrounding Jerusalem” took place last Friday. Meeting point was the Old Train Station but the actual start was at the Cinematheque. There were different routes: 40 km, 20 km and 10 km. I only participated in parts of the route. When you are not officially registered like me, you don’t feel too obligated. Thus I took it very easy but I really enjoyed the event. 🙂 Weather was perfect and not too hot so early in the morning.
I love getting up early and I decided that, on Fridays, I will get up at 5am or so and go out with the mountain bike. At this hour, streets and the biker path are basically empty.

Thousands of people were participating in last Friday’s  “Sovev Yerushalayim”. I don’t know if it was worth signing up beforehand. Participants who did register received a cheap orange shirt and a small kit with a drink and sweets. And, of course, there were stands selling overpriced biker equipment. However, the only stand making money was the place selling coffee. 🙂
Riding a bike in Jerusalem is not easy at all, as the city is located on a couple of hills. It goes uphill and downhill all the time and one has to be in good shape. Unless you have those lazy people riding an electric “fake” bike. 🙂
