Haredim still entering Damascus Gate in East Jerusalem

B”H
What I absolutely don’t understand: Why so many Haredim from nearby Mea Shearim still have to use Damascus Gate on their way to the Kotel (Western Wall). Okay, Damascus Gate in East Jerusalem is a shortcut and it takes more time going through Jaffa Gate, but still … Damascus Gate is a Hamas area where Haredim are getting attacked all the time. So, why are they still using this shortcut ?
There is a Torah prohibition against putting ourselves in a dangerous situation and Damascus Gate is such a danger.

  1. It seems your camera was more disturbing than the arabs ๐Ÿ™‚
But where does one draw the line between emuna/bitachon and self-protection ?

  2. B”H

On the one hand, Jerusalem is for everybody and Jews should be able to walk everywhere. Arabs do and we have them all the time in West Jerusalem. As soon as Jews are entering the Eastern part, we have to be aware of not running into an Arab mob. The same with my neighbourhood: The Arabs are passing our streets 24 hours a day. If we only set one foot further down the road in their part, our throats would be cut.

Too many Mea Shearim residents still use Damascus Gate as a shortcut to the Kotel. Jews are being attacked all the time and then they complain.
