The traditional “Walk around the Old City Walls” is taking place every Tisha be’Av eve.  First, all participants are gathering at the Independence Park, right across the American Consulate. There, Megillath EICHA (The Book of Lamentations) is being read.

That Megillath Eicha is read in front of the American Consulate has no particular reason. The Jerusalem Municipality is providing the Independence Park for this event. There is nothing political or whatsoever behind it.

It was after 11 pm, when we were walking through East Jerusalem. Too late to see a lot of Palestinians around.
My guess is that approx. 1000 people were participating in the walk. Not too many because it was Mozzae’i Shabbat and it usually takes a while until buses are running again. Thus, many people from outside Jerusalem couldn’t make it to the event.
