The highest Jewish holiday, YOM KIPPUR, is starting this Tuesday evening. It is an entirely Jewish holiday where G-d is judging every single Jew for another year and is actually sealing His verdict.
Yom Kippur is a serious and, at the same time, a happy holiday. It really becomes a “happy” day for me when we start the Ne’ilah service and blow the Shofar. Not because the fast is over but it is this unique feeling to be without sin. At least for a few minutes. 🙂
I did not have such a spiritual Rosh Hashana and, to my regret, I haven’t even been to the Kotel (Western Wall) for the Selichot prayer. I totally admit that I have been too lazy to walk and when I wanted to go, the Arabs started rioting in the Old City. This is the reason why this year, there was a decrease in Jews saying Selichot at the Kotel. Riots or not, I will hopefully make my way to the Selichot either tonight or tomorrow night.
Chabad is providing the exact times for Yom Kippur in Jerusalem:
The fast begins at 6.57 pm. Yom Kippur ends on Wednesday night at 7.11 pm. The buses start running 1-2 hours later.
Please note that all Israeli Egged buses will stop running at around 2.30 pm on Tuesday afternoon!
The weather forecast on Yom Kippur: Tuesday 27 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. In other words, it will be hot.
