The Jewish world is entering a new month today: The month of ADAR. And, as this year is a leap year, an additional month of Adar will be added.
Today we are entering the first Adar called “Adar Aleph”. In another month, we are entering the second month of Adar called “Adar Beth”. Sounds very complicated but it isn’t. 🙂
Simcha, joy, is the symbol of Adar. Joy to serve G-d and that G-d caused so many miracles to happen for the Jewish people (Purim and Pessach).
According to Sefer Yetzirah (The Book of Creation), each Jewish month represents a certain letter, horoscope, organ, sense and tribe:
– The letter of Adar is the KUF ק
– The horoscope is the fish
– The tribe is Naftali
– The sense is laughter
– The organ is the spleen
Due to the leap year, we are only celebrating Purim in the second month of Adar. At the end of March. Also due to the leap year, all following holidays come out rather late. For instance, Pessach will be celebrated in the last week of April. In Israel this could mean “almost summer”. 🙂 Well, at least we will have nice warm weather.
Chodesh Tov – חודש טוב – Have a great new month Adar !
