We all know the famous Christian Talmud Bashing from the medieval church. Talmud editions were burned in Spain, France and other western European countries. The church was extremely afraid of Gentiles finding out about the true origins of Christianity and that the pope may lose his power.
The Talmud, on the other hand, doesn’t really refer to Christianity too often. In Talmud Avodah Zarah (Idol worship) for instance, the teachings mostly refer to Roman, Greek or Babylonian idol worship and not necessarily to Christianity.
However, Talmud Bashing exists until today and, from time to time, one of these extremely fanatic Christians sends me a comment. One of my German readers called the Talmud a book justifying pedophiles. The reader referred to a Pasuk in Talmud Yevamot 57b, where a three – year – old girl is mentioned. In a different context, whatsoever.
