I don’t know how many American, Canadian, Australian, British or South African Jews come to study in Israel every year. It must be a lot and I have come across many of them over the past twenty years or so.
They study at the HebrewU or Bar Ilan University and others go to Yeshiva or a girl’s seminary. Some may even become a Kibbutz volunteer.
Whatever you are planning to do, there is one thing you probably won’t take into consideration: How the time spending abroad is going to change you.
You are going to have all kinds of experiences, meet people from all over the world, make new friends, etc. As soon as you get back to your country, you realize that you cannot really share all these stories with your friends at home. They may listen for a while but they cannot understand your excitement.
Sometimes, coming home is much harder than leaving for Israel. 🙂
