The burning of the last Chametz (forbidden foods on Pessach) in Nachlaot / Jerusalem this morning. By the way, the newspaper was used in order to enhance the fire. 🙂
I finished all my cleaning last night, burnt the last Chametz this morning and went to the Machane Yehudah Market to buy potatoes. Askenazi Jews eat lots and lots and lots of potatoes on Pessach. Various Sephardi Jews, however, have the custom to eat rice.
Surprisingly, the Shuk (Market) was half empty. The coffee chains COFIX and AROMA were closed. Usually AROMA is open on Pessach, as they kasher everything but now it is closed. So, I just bought meat, potatoes, onions, cheese, olives and meat.
The salesmen in the Shuk complain that cheap supermarket chains such as Rami Levi or Osher Ad take away the customers. That’s right! Machane Yehudah was half empty and I knew immediately where everyone was: At Osher Ad buying like crazy and cheap. Pessach and especially the Seder tonight cost a lot of money and people go where it is cheap.
Have a great holiday everyone! – Chag Sameach and Happy Passover!!!
