Death in Judaism

Can a dead person still be alive?

Can a dead person still be alive and if so, how?

No, I am not talking about Elvis or the Lubavitcher Rebbe. I am talking about any human being who died a while ago. Can he still be alive?

The answer is yes but, of course, he cannot be alive after his passing. Dead means dead until the Resurrection of the Dead is taking place.

Nevertheless, a person we know died in the past can still be alive in the past. Lets say we are talking about John F. Kennedy and refer to the year 1960. Kennedy was still alive then. Today he is dead, of course, but in the past (1960) he was still alive.

Why am I mentioning this?

Because I find this quite fascinating. I was amazed when I read this in a book. Basically the people who died in the past are still alive in their past.

Maybe this concept is helping those people who are in mourning.
